LOST, AND FOUND....

Some of the most beautiful places aren’t on any itinerary

This Sinhala & Tamil New Year, I set off on a motorbike with no plan — just quiet roads, village paths, and the intention to explore beyond the obvious. Somewhere near Mihintale, deep in the jungle, I stumbled upon the Mahakanadarawa Stone Bridge — a hidden masterpiece of ancient Sri Lankan engineering.

Believed to date back to the 200 AD, this stone bridge was part of an advanced irrigation network built in harmony with nature. Massive stone slabs still rest perfectly in place, silently telling stories of craftsmanship designed to last millennials.

There was no one around. No signs, no tickets, not even a phone signal.

Just stillness.

Moments like this remind me that true luxury isn’t found in crowded hotspots but in untouched places that let you slow down. Traveling off the main tourist tracks gave me something rare — a complete digital detox and a deep sense of calm.

Sometimes, getting lost on purpose is exactly what you need to reconnect.

JEDDAH - IN BETWEEN

Jeddah Al Balad is a place suspended between time and transformation. Crumbling facades stand beside carefully restored houses, their intricate wooden mashrabiyas whispering stories of centuries past. Here, old and new exist side by side—imperfect, layered, alive.

The sweltering heat lingers in the narrow streets, softened only by the scent of oud drifting through the air. Step inside a heritage house, half-restored yet full of soul, and history unfolds quietly in every corner. Wander beyond the main thoroughfares and you’ll find small, authentic eateries where migrant workers gather—simple, real, untouched by trend.

Then suddenly, a shaded alley appears: lined with trees, softened by greenery, lit by old lamp posts that feel almost nostalgic..

Al Balad is not polished, and that is its magic. It’s a living contrast, a fragile balance. I only hope it stays this way—because its charm lies in the coexistence of what was and what is becoming.

AL LAHUN - magnificient views of the Grand Canyon of Jordan 🇯🇴

Al-Lahun is one of those places that stays with you.
It is located 30 km southeast of Madaba, perched on the northern plateau of Wadi al-Mujib. The site has been inhabited from prehistoric times through the Ottoman era. It has magnificent view over the Mubib Dam and the Valley, the “Grand Canyon” of Jordan. It makes a perfect day trip from Amman to see Al-Lahun, the Mujib Dam, Ma’in, and the Dead Sea.

Once a fortified settlement with olive presses and double walls, it later became a strategic site overlooking Wadi al-Mujib and a place of village life, trade, and religion.

The stones here don’t just sit quietly — they whisper stories of daily life, ancient ingenuity, and cultural change across millennia.

Beyond the breathtaking views, Al-Lahut invites slower, more conscious travel. Away from crowded routes and polished attractions, it offers space for reflection, curiosity, and respect for fragile heritage. If you love discovering hidden places, architectural storytelling, and meaningful connections with nature and culture, this quiet gem is a must-visit, about 25 min from the UNESCO site of Umm ar Rasas.

AJLOUN ADVENTURES YOU DIDN'T KNOW..... 🇯🇴 JORDAN

Ever wondered what to do in and around Ajloun, except of visiting the castle? Here are some more places to visit:

1. old hydroponic grain mill from the Ottoman period - close to Judayata, check map for طاحونة عودة

2. Wadis around Ajloun, especially during spring (Wadi Rayan - Orjan, Kufranja Dam)

3. Old village of Zoubia - old town "The Great Zoubia" with old mosque

4. Birgish cave and hiking trails around Birgish (perfect also for picnic)

Tried the "castle loop hiking trail" starting opposite Tibo restaurant below Ajloun castle and ending at the Teleferic?- a must do!
There are so many hiking trails to enjoy!
Be aware of shepherd dogs.

Ajloun is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and hiking fans.
